Cell phones?

So thinking about the coming year one of the classroom issues that I want to alleviate deals with cell phones. If you wonder how many high schoolers have them, check this out. This was from just one class of only 9th graders.

I also know that it becomes addicting to teenagers and some are staying up way late into the night texting. So...I've also been wondering how to teach students proper cell phone use. A scripture came to me during sacrament meeting.

Alma 38:12 Here Alma teaches his son Shiblon and all of us that we need to "bridle all [our] passions."
I think this will be great in Monroe, since they'll know more about bridles than I ever will.

Any other ideas??

still blows my mind the craze of cell phones. I was a freshman in college and only Vincent James Fagioli III (our italian mafia ward member) had a cell phone.

I LOVE the cell phone box idea. I wanted to suggest it for our CA cell phone usage issues :)

that is nuts! I thought of another gospel phrase that might work...

As members of the Church, we are called to serve. Not called to answer.

ehh?!

Ok, really cheezy I know. I think the box idea and Alma scripture are great!

ha! Classic, Russ!

What a challenge, Eric - and we'll all probably deal with this as parents of teenagers someday! CRAZY! I have no suggestions but love the ones proposed. GOOD LUCK!

so one suggestion, but first i need to ask:

1. Do you have a cell phone?
2. Do you have unlimited texting?

One idea that isn't ideal if you don't have the above 2, is to decide as a class what time, and then you send a text out-- kinda like a goodnight, go to bed, stop texting thing. And you decide you'll only do it for 2 days, or something...

anyways, that's just my 2 cents.

p.s. i love this blog.
